Our Burundi Journey

High in the hills of Ngozi, Burundi, coffee farming is a way of life for thousands of
smallholder farmers. Coffee contributes over 25% of the country’s export revenue and supports nearly 40% of the population. However, farmers have long struggled with
unstable prices and limited market access.

We became good friends with a gentleman from Burundi, studying at Penn State. Through this connection, we were able to travel to Burundi in 2022 to meet his family
who is working with the farmers to get their product to market, see the coffee production process first hand and talk with the farmers.

Through our partnership with FOBUPCO (Friends of Burundian Products Company), We help farmers receive fair prices for their coffee, providing stability and opportunity. With these earnings, farmers invest in education, housing, retirement homes for low-income farmers and community improvements, creating a better future for their families.

Burundian farmers meticulously handpick coffee cherries and process them at local artisanal washing stations, preserving the coffee’s bright, fruity flavors. Their dedication has helped Burundi’s coffee gain recognition on the international stage.

Each cup of Burundian coffee tells a story of resilience and hope, empowering local communities to thrive through sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices.
